::EDIT 2::
A fellow brony tackled this question and expressed my point of view better than I could ever do it. Check it out! It's worth it!

::END EDIT 2::

::EDIT 1::
What i have learn so far from this conversation
- most individual who commented on this are well articulated and spoke of their personal experience in the fandom in general. You guys are awesome.
- This is a discussion and in no way shape or form should it imply that i am not concerned about worldly issues concerning women. This conversation will be for another time.
- seems somes fans of previous gens do the same thing about the latest gen.
- this kind of conversation happens in all fandom
::END EDIT 1::

This message is mostly for the fans of MLP. I would like to point out that this is only my opinion and I wanted to share it because I thought maybe starting a discussion would help me see more clearly on this matter.

Definition of discrimination: is the prejudicial or distinguishing treatment of an individual based on his or her membership - or perceived membership - in a certain group or category. It involves the group's initial reaction or interaction, influencing the individual's actual behavior towards the group or the group leader, restricting members of one group from opportunities or privileges that are available to another group, leading to the exclusion of the individual or entities based on logical or irrational decision making

This is my response to the whole "I love bronies" tshirt that came out in Walmarts featuring ponies from G1. [link] From what I could see, there are people that were offended that they portrayed G1 instead of G4. Some have said it was a misinterpretation of bronies. May I point out that it seems that this shirt was for girls? What? WHy would the guys care what's on my shirt?

Most of you will agree that the past generations of MLP have been targeted mainly at woman. And that most of the previous fanbase was female.
Now.... when G4 came around, it was with great joy that the fandom welcomed a large male audience. We rejoinced, had beer and all was well. But then shit happened. Some men claimed it as their own and totally kicked the female base out of the way, saying how amazingly MANLY G4 was and how the previous generations were "girly" (I like how "girly" has suddenly a negative tone to it)

What's with all this negativity towards previous Gens? And what's with putting the female fans on the side? Seriously, I am a person too and I would really much appreciate if people would stop imposing their views on me and other women like me.

That said, I would like to hear your opinion of this matter. I would also like to hear from the women that are fans of this show. What do you feel is your place in this fandom? What did you think of that shirt with Gen 1 ponies?

Well executed piece, really like the message and both ponies look fab. I too have been surprised by the overwhelming amount of misogyny in the current MLP fandom. This isn't the first time men have liked MLP, but like you wrote, they've never completely appropriated the franchise for themselves before while shaming older MLP for its femininity. There are way too many insecure and egotistical men who have just gotten into MLP that treat life-long women fans like they're inferior.

I think the shirt was fine and men have absolutely no place complaining about a shirt for a little girl. If their daughter or wife wants one, it's not appropriate for a guy to throw a hissy fit over which generation of pony is used for a shirt not even for them. It's like men who complain about heels and skirts length; women aren't there to be mannequins to show off clothes that men like, we have our own interests and should be able to wear what we choose. If a woman wants a G1 pony shirt, it is nobody's business but their own.

What's next, men takeover Strawberry Shortcake and Jen & the Holograms as their own too? If men keep appropriating content as "theirs" and shaming anything "girly," what the hell are femme women and girls supposed to watch?

I actually think that the G1 pony over there looks way cuter than the G4..

I've always loved MLP, ever since I saw the 80's cartoon till now. But I agree how some of the fan base try to kick aside MLP's past and their old fan base. It's great guys like it too but it's kind of saddening that it's negative to be girly? I loved every generation of MLP. I also loved those shirts at Walmart they were cute. My place in the fandom is forgotten. :'\

As a fan of every single generation of My Little Pony, I approve of this. The more I look at it, FIM is basically just all the best elements of past gens in one go, with it's own awesome flaire, also FIM is clearly made to respect the old gens. That said there are things that each gen does better than the other, so long story short the're all awesome. /)

good message and love the artwork because it look like ashleigh ball bro-hoofing sandy duncan (funny enough both did applejack and the main pegisi from their respected gen)

to me the mane six seem to have other trait from the g1 ponies and not just the one's they based off

twilight sparkle seem to be mixture of wind whistler, galaxy and paradise and her magic level is closest to majesty or mimic

rainbow dash seem to a pegasus version of moonstone with whizzer's speed

applejack seem to tend her apple farm like posey tends her large garden has truly's accent

rarity also has trait from both truly and heart throb

pinkie pie seem to borrow alot from the mother lickity split (in the uk toy bio, it states that she enjoys planning suprise birthday partys for her friends and more importanly when somepony is feeling sad, she cheer them up with one of her ice cream concocktions)

and finaly fluttershy seem to be mixture of sweetstuff and shady (she timid and not very brave and for an earth pony she can't jump very well)

i absolutely agree. that's the main reason i get sick of seeing or hearing about MLP on the internet. the discrimination and the "all-boys club, no girls allowed" thing. my biggest concern is the "bronies" label. it's of course based on the word "brother" and already shows discrimination. but then again, i wasn't a big fan of MLP to begin with. i'd rather go with fosters home for imaginary friends if i were to choose.
